Sephora Green Tea Eye Mask

My under eye circles have been dark. The skin around my eyes hurts. I’m exhausted but no amount of sleep seems to help. I’m having such a hard time concealing these hereditary under eye circles.

I decided to try the Sephora Green Tea Eye Mask. The mask cost $6.00 CAD and is offered in a bunch of different formulations. The green tea mask was described as relaxing and refreshing – just what I needed! The packaging indicates to leave it on for about 15 minutes and then massage the excess product into your skin gently.

I was skeptical at first but ended up loving it! After, my under eye skin looked and felt amazing. My skin was soft and glowy and my circles were less dark! This mask really helped me out so I will definitely be repurchasing it again and again.

Life Update – I’m Back! A New Chapter Begins.

Where have I been? Getting that engineering degree of course. The past few months have been so crazy! I thought I knew what I was getting myself into… Taking on a new full-time job, 3 full-time courses, a dreaded technical report, and my final-year engineering degree project. Things got miserable real quick! This little list of responsibilities I would have over the next 4 months turned into several long group projects, non-stop report writing, stressful presentations, weekly assignments, midterms, quizzes, final exams… On top of all of this – it was my first (and LAST – let me tell you…) winter owning a car in Montreal. We got hit with the WORST snow storms. I won’t get into too much detail but I had a few traumatic experiences of trying to park my boat-of-a-car and slipping and sliding my way to work!

The snow is overwhelming!

On a super positive note – I am so happy to say that all my hard work paid off! Life has just been surprising me with great stuff recently. In April, I celebrated receiving my iron ring! This little ring is worn on the working-hand pinky finger to serve as a reminder of the responsibility of the engineer. I am so proud to have earned it.

I have to also mention that I just had the best semester of my entire university education. I do not know how I did it! First, my team and I won a first place award for our final-year engineering degree project. It felt awesome building something from scratch and having it be acknowledged as excellent work. Also, I got A’s in every class. WHAT! I was not expecting that. After my last exam everyone was saying “Stephanie you’re finally done school – you must be so excited”. To which I replied “Eh… I’m still waiting for my final grades.. I hope I didn’t fail. OMG CAN YOU IMAGINE IF I DID AND I HAVE TO GO BACK”. I’m telling you – I have put an honest 100% effort into all my classes throughout this degree and never reached that ‘A’ student status. I have had some huge disappointments and major bad luck over the years. So its just great seeing all my hard work finally pay off .

Studying for my last exam – with quite the view!

So now that that is all done and said – I’m finally back and ready to start posting more! I have so many ideas of stuff I would like to blog about. Hope you guys stick with me for my post-university life journey! It truly feels like a brand new chapter of my life. It feels awesome. I will leave you with this quote that really stuck with me this week:

“STOP being afraid of what could go wrong and START being positive about what could go right”

My 2016 Favorites

I hope everyone has been enjoying the holiday season! It’s been amazing relaxing at home, visiting family, binging on movies and netflix, cooking some good homemade meals…

In all honesty, 2016 was not my best year yet. There was a lot of stress, let-downs, and very annoying situations. I’m sure you can relate right? Although 2016 may not have been the best for some of us, we must remember the good things it brought. In my case, I worked very hard in school and am only 4 months away from achieving my goal of becoming an engineer! I bought my first car – hello freedom from public transit! My relationship with my boyfriend is headed in exciting directions! This past summer we also introduced a cute little girl kitty into our home! There’s so much more. These are the memories which I would like to take with me into 2017. The past is in the past… that’s right 2016 we’re done here. Hello 2017!

But before going into the new year, I’ve decided to put together my ‘2016 favorites’ list. These have been my go-to products throughout the year.

From left to right: Make Up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Buxom Full-On Lip Stick, NYX Butter Gloss, Maybelline Master Contour Kit, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer, Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate, Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, Beautyblender sponge, Marcelle Oil-Free Eye Make-Up Remover Lotion, Redken All-Soft Shampoo and Conditioner, Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter, L’Oreal Nail Polish

I recently wrote a review about the Benefit Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara. I love this mascara. The wand is great. It stays put during the day and keeps the curl. The packaging is super cute as well!

High-End Foundation

My favorite high-end foundation has been the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. I’m in the shade 115- R230. I was not sure about this one when I picked it up earlier on in the year, but fell in love with it again in the fall.

Drugstore Foundation

The CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous foundation is my favorite drugstore foundation of 2016. It works perfectly with my dry/combination skin. This summer I worked in a hot and humid warehouse environment. This foundation would last all day and remained lightweight on my skin. I am, of course, the lightest shade possible #105 classic ivory.

I love the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I like to use a concealer that is lighter than my normal skin tone. I use the lightest shade possible – chantilly, which is maybe even too light honestly… Either way, it stays put for most of the day and is great at covering up blemishes. I have very translucent pale skin and hereditary under-eye circles. It does not do much to cover them up in my case. Either way I can’t get over this concealer. I love the sponge-tip applicator and it’s creamy texture which makes it easy to blend.

Blush, Bronzer, Highlight

This year was not a huge blush and bronzer year for me. Reflecting back now, I think this was a result of dropping my Annabelle Biggy Bronzer (the best!) and makeup brushes in the bathroom. The brushes broke and the bronzer fell into the toilet! Yes, it was a devastating moment and it was summer and I was getting a little color on my face anyways. I procrastinated buying a new bronzer and getting new brushes. I eventually picked up the Maybelline Master Contour Kit in light. It has a nice bronzer, blush, and highlight all in one pallet making it easy to pack and travel with.

Makeup Brushes and Tools

I always use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush for applying liquid foundation. The brush is super soft and dense, it doesn’t streak, and it makes my makeup look natural and well-blended! I clean this brush all the time and it hasn’t affected the quality  or shedded.

I have also been loving the Beautyblender As you can tell from the makeup stains, I use the pointed tip to blend the corners of my eyes and nose.

Facial Moisturizer and Oil

I love Kiehl’s skincare products. The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is great for the colder months when my skin starts drying up and flaking. It feels so lightweight and absorbs into the skin instantly! When my skin feels really dry and dull I like to use the Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate which smells awesome and brings some life to my skin.

Makeup Remover

This is my second purchase of the Marcelle Oil Free Eye Make-Up Remover Lotion. I use this mostly to remove mascara residue after my evening shower. For me, a small amount on a damp facecloth does the job. Although I found it pretty expensive for a makeup remover, if you catch this one on sale its worth it. A whole bottle lasted me one year! I could never go back to oily makeup removers.

Shampoo & Conditioner

During my last haircut I decided to splurge on a shampoo and conditioner at the register. The Redken All-Soft shampoo and condition is my favorite shampoo yet. It smells amazing and makes your hair super soft!

Nail Polish

I love L’Oreal nail polishes. They are so easy to apply and have a great shade selection. Haute couture red #470 (left) is a deep redish-purple color that is just perfect for the fall and winter months in my opinion. Red tote #460 (middle) is a classic ruby red shade that I wore throughout fall and winter as well. Yacht party #738 (right) is just a creamy white shade which is perfect for summer months.

Lip Product

The NYX butter gloss in crème brûlée is my favorite everyday lip product. The shade works perfect for me and is kind of a ‘my lips but better’ product. I have talked about the Buxom Full-On Lip Stick in Amsterdam before. I love the formulation of this product and the ease of application.

Hand Cream

I’ve been using the Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter mostly on my hands as they get super dry this time of year. This moisturizer is great! Its very creamy, smells nice, and absorbs into the skin very quick!

What are you 2016 favorites? What products worked and what didn’t? Leave a comment below or a link to your blog – I love reading about these things!

Benefit Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara

Benefit was the first brand I tried that was “high-end/non-drugstore”. I eventually branched out to other brands as I was getting pretty bored with their selection. This is my first benefit product purchase in at least 5 years.

I picked up the Benefit Roller Lash. It’s mascara right… so there is no need for 5 paragraphs here – it either works or it doesn’t!

I picked up the travel size in the color black. I was not sure if I was going to like it… but turns out I love it! I also love the pink and black packaging – super cute! The wand has a mix of short and long bristles which seem to pick up every little eyelash hair and curl it nicely.

The full size retails for 31.00 CAD which is pretty expensive for a mascara but I say this is definitely worth the splurge!

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter. I was dying to try the Vanilla Bean scent – apparently it smells like a Starbucks Vanilla Bean Frappucino! Turns out I cannot justify spending $43.00 CAD on the full 8 oz version of the cream. I picked up the 2 oz travel size in Honeysuckle Vanilla for only $15.00 CAD. It’s really a shame they do not carry the travel size in Vanilla Bean. Either way, the Honeysuckle Vanilla is a great second choice.

I’m not great at explaining scents but the Honeysuckle Vanilla smells like a sweet mix of vanilla and honey (oh wow – who would have known?). The smell is not overpowering at all. For how lightweight this cream is, it sure has a lasting and moisturizing effect. Just a bit of this cream makes your skin feel so smooth. Its absorbed into the skin really quick and leaves a great light scent. It does not feel greasy at all. After applying some of this on my own hands – I am immediately compelled to force it on whoever is next to me – which is usually my boyfriend. He doesn’t seem to mind it and likes the smell – so take what you want from that!

This product is a must-try if you are looking for a new body butter/moisturizing cream. Although it is a little bit of a splurge, a little bit of this cream seems to go a long way. If you are hesitant to pick up the full version then try out the travel size. It’s actually a decent quantity for someone like myself who only uses creams on my hands when they are feeling extra dry or when I feel like pampering myself.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

Did I mention I do most of my shopping online nowadays? The thought of a crowded Sephora with loud music and a million different people asking me if I need help is just too much. The problem with online shopping is that you can’t try on the products. Your odds of picking the right shade are decreased as well. I love shopping online at Sephora because of their great return policy. This came in handy with this purchase!

After a spree of trying many different foundations I felt like I needed something light and easier to apply on a daily basis. Especially going into my final exam period at University! I researched for some lightweight bb or cc creams that could be pulled off on their own. I  found the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. I believe this is more of a tinted moisturizer. I do not necessarily need a lot of coverage as my skin is usually fairly clear. I just need a little something to even out my skin tone and moisturize my skin.

I picked up the color 03 Buttercream after much googling of swatches and shade matching. The cream costs around $37.00 CAD.

Sorry for the poor quality photos taken at night:

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer Gel Cream Buttercream

This was very oily on me in all the wrong places. At the same time, it brought out all my dry patches making my skin more flaky than normal. It felt too heavy. It also didn’t blend out well and left me with these horrible streaks that my boyfriend pointed out halfway through our day (thanks for the heads up!!!).  It was also a little too orange.

I’m not one to be picky about packaging but what is up with the expiration date on the front of the packaging? Anyways, I do not return things often but this would have just been a complete waste.

That’s just my experience. Have any of you tried this product? What’s your opinion on it? Let me know in the comments! Also, what would you recommend as a lightweight bb or cc cream type product that would better suit my needs instead?

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream and Lip Stick

I’ve recently picked up the Buxom Full-On Lip Cream and Buxom Full-On Lip Stick. I’m not crazy on lipstick or gloss but once in a while when I have the time I like to add that additional step in my makeup routine.

The Full-On Lip Stick is in the color Amsterdam and comes in a long stick applicator. The cost is 24.00 CAD. It’s very creamy and glides on smoothly. It feel very lightweight on. What I love the most is how easy it is to apply. No I didn’t feel the claimed “tingling effect” but that’s not why I bought it anyways.

Swatch of Amsterdam lip stick:

I picked up the Full-On Lip Cream in the color Dolly which is known to be one of the bestselling colors. The cost is 24.00 CAD. It is described as having a tingling and plumping effect. I did feel a slight tingle and cooling effect but do not feel like it did any sort of “plumping” of the lips. I did find it a bit sticky.

Swatch of the Lip Cream in Dolly (left side) next to the Lip Stick in Amsterdam (right side):

Overall, the lip cream didn’t really “wow” me so I probably would not repurchase. BUT… I would definitely recommend this lip stick and am looking into picking up other shades.

Have any of you tried the Buxom Full-On lip products? What’s your opinions? What shades would you suggest? Let me know in comments!
